Technology

Honeycomb panels achieve their stability through having a lightweight honeycomb core with high compressive strength. If the honeycomb core is bonded with thin cover layers, when bent the core will only be subjected to pressure and the cover layer to tensile stress. The higher the compressive strength of the core and the greater the elastic modulus of the cover layer, the more rigid the foam panel.

If both the honeycomb and cover layer are translucent, this creates a translucent honeycomb panel – manufactured and sold by us as the ViewPan product range.

The WaveCore honeycomb core is made from transparent PETG foils, which are continuously manufactured using a patented weaving process with a max. thickness of 160 mm and max. width of 1250 mm. The result is a visually appealing and highly uniform honeycomb core of offset diamonds that form a wave lengthwise. Hence the name “WaveCore”.

Our WaveCore honeycomb cores are available with 9 mm and 18 mm cell widths. They are used for applications in lightweight construction/furniture-making and as straighteners for laminar airflows.

ViewPan bonding technology

The manufacture of ViewPan honeycomb panels is possible thanks to a bonding technology specially developed for the WaveCore honeycomb on the basis of a transparent, light-fast adhesive. The adhesive bonds the honeycomb core with the transparent plastic outer layer of the honeycomb panel and forms a fixed fillet at the junction of the honeycomb ridges and the outer layer. The adhesive tracks the honeycomb structure, resulting in an attractive, calm, uniform structure with an organic appearance.

All bondable plastic layers with a max. panel size of 3050 mm x 1250 mm can essentially be used for the manufacture of ViewPan.

We use PMMA (acrylic) – see ViewPan PMMA for a wide range of colours and a high-quality look.

To manufacture ViewPan PET we use PETG outer layers with a B1 fire protection finish. These panels have a fire protection certificate and can therefore be used as illuminated ceilings, at trade fairs and in public institutions.
